Traveling to Taiwan felt like stepping into a real-life Ghibli movie (for all my fellow anime lovers out there). With its rich history, vibrant culture, and peaceful nature spots, Taipei has this magical vibe I couldn’t get enough of. If you’re looking for a destination that brings that same whimsical, storybook feeling to life, Taipei, Taiwan is definitely it. Keep reading for the top 7 attractions you won’t want to miss!

1. Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall

Located in the heart of Taipei, the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. With its grand white building, deep blue roof, and peaceful gardens, the whole place feels calm yet powerful. You can explore the historical exhibits, admire the stunning architecture, or simply stroll around and take it all in. I went right as the sun started to set — and let me tell you, the view was absolutely gorgeous and perfect for taking photos!

2. National Palace Museum

The National Palace Museum is a must-visit if you’re interested in learning more about Chinese history and art. It’s home to one of the largest collections of ancient Chinese artifacts — we’re talking thousands of years’ worth of treasures. I ended up spending hours wandering through the exhibits; everything was so beautifully preserved and displayed. It honestly felt like stepping into a time capsule.

3. Ximending Walking District

Ximending is one of those places that instantly feels alive — colorful signs, busy streets, and so many things to see (and eat). It’s the perfect spot to shop for souvenirs and food. It has that fun, youthful vibe that makes you feel like you’re in the heart of Taipei.

4. Yangmingshan National Park & Beitou Day Trip

This was honestly one of my favorite memories from Taipei. If you’re a nature lover, you have to add this day trip to your itinerary. From the misty mountain views at Yangmingshan to the relaxing hot spring vibes in Beitou, it was the perfect mix of peaceful and scenic. It felt like a breath of fresh air — literally.

5. Shilin Night Market

Another go-to spot for souvenirs and street food! I actually showed up a little too early — a few stalls were open, but most vendors were still setting up, so it didn’t have that full night market energy yet. Definitely recommend going later in the evening when it’s more alive and bustling.

6. National Taiwan Museum

I found this museum while walking through 228 Peace Memorial Park and decided to pop in — and I’m so glad I did. It’s not super big, but it’s beautifully curated and gives a great intro to Taiwan’s natural history and cultural roots. The building itself is also really aesthetic, with those classic columns and peaceful surroundings. It’s the perfect little break if you’re already exploring the park or just want to slow down for a bit.

7. Elephant Mountain

For my fellow hiking and nature lovers, this is one spot I definitely recommend, especially if you want that iconic view of Taipei City and Taipei 101. I went at night to catch the city lights, and it felt super peaceful. The hike itself wasn’t too strenuous, but I did take a few breaks along the way (no shame!). If you’re going at night or early in the morning, I recommend using your phone flashlight since some parts of the trail can get pretty dark. Once you reach the top, the view makes it all worth it.
